Gawa mula sa pinatuyong Ulva seaweeds, ang Ulva Aquafeeds ay nagtataglay ng ibat-ibang nutrients at prebiotics na mabuti para sa kalusugan ng mga alagang isda at hipon. Ito rin ay nakatutulong upang mapalakas ang resistensya ng mga alagang hayop at makaiwas sa mga mapaminsalang sakit.

Ang Ulva Aquafeeds ay bunga ng pananaliksik ng mga siyentista mula sa University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) sa pakikipagtulungan ng Trading Room’s Eco Life G1. Ito ay pinondohan ng CRADLE Program ng DOST Science for Change Program (S4CP).

Entering the European market for seaweed

Philippine seaweed exporters now want to explore the production and trade of Ulva or sea lettuce, a type of green seaweed that is not yet commercially grown in the Philippines but offers potential in exports.

One Filipino company that focuses on the development of Ulva products is Ecolife. Filipino scientists are looking into the use of Ulva in animal feed as they are rich in unique soluble fibres called Ulvans which are known to boost immunity in a range of animals.

'Eubiotic Feed' mula sa damong-dagat, mahusay na sangkap sa mga pakain sa isda

Matagumpay na nakapagdebelop ng pakain o ‘feeds’ sa mga likas-yamang dagat ang Institute of Aquaculture ng University of the Philippines Visayas (IA-UPV) sa tulong ng Trading Room Incorporated, isang pribadong kumpanya. Ang nasabing pakain ay isang ‘eubiotic feed supplement’ na hango sa damong-dagat o ‘seaweed’ na nadelop ng mga siyentista mula sa IA-UPV. Ang paggamit nito ay nagresulta sa mas mabilis na paglaki at ‘feed conversion efficiency (FCE)’ ng tilapia, hipon, at bangus.
